CALM KITCHENETTE | WASHINGTON, DC

The existing space consisted of an enclosed single-wall kitchen adjacent to a dining area. The goal was to remove the wall and open the kitchen to the dining space, while adding as much function and additional storage as possible. With tricky access points, including direct access to the basement and backyard, the kitchen needed a unique break in the line. Paying attention to the appliances doors to allow for a smaller outswing with a french door option and adding depth to the butcher block counter with seating. Additionally, retaining a few Art Deco elements in homage to the existing historical design of the home, a calm and earthy palette was chosen to allow the formerly tiny kitchen to breathe and create a calming presence each morning.
